Metakognitiv Terapi og Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My name is Jakob and I’m a Counselling Psychologist. I work with behavior change. This means that our work together focuses on what you can do to create positive change in your life.
I am interested in learning what you are passionate about, and what you experience can sometimes block or prevent you from living the life you want. I would like to learn more about how you have dealt with these challenges, what you have done to overcome them, and how this has worked for you.
My goal is for us to develop techniques and strategies that work better for you so that you can begin to live the life you want.
I walk on two educational legs in the form of Anthropology (Master of Arts at Aarhus University in 2008) and Counselling Psychology (Master of Arts at Yorkville University in Canada in 2020). My relatively recent combination of anthropology and psychology has provided me with a theoretical “home” in the most current so-called postmodern approaches to mental health, e.g. Narrative therapy.
Narrative therapy stands out as a profoundly respectful, non-blaming approach to therapy in that it views people as experts in their own lives. The narrative therapist views problems as separate from people and assumes that people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that can assist them in reducing the influence of problems in their lives. This is the way that I will meet you.
We can also find inspiration in the most recent so-called “third wave” of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, e.g. Metacognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A central idea in these approaches and associated large box of practical tools is to develop closer contact with the present moment and value-driven action.
The story of my life involves 23 years of marriage. My wife and I have three children aged 18, 15 and 11 years. We have lived on the African continent for 12 years.
As an anthropologist in Uganda, Zambia, and Tanzania, I was preoccupied with understanding the complex universes that each and every culture constitutes. As a therapist, I am preoccupied with understanding the complex universes that each and every client world constitutes. There exists only one version of your life.
I play squash and soccer in my spare time. Walking and nature experiences in general have begun to occupy more of my time after covid-19. I watch a lot of movies and series, and I have had the opportunity to co-direct documentaries myself.
In addition to working with individual therapy, I am employed at a shelter for abused women.
I am very flexible in terms of appointments. I am available Monday to Friday at Psykologcenter’s office in Østergade 13, 2 (Strøget), and we can also meet online.
“Jakob has helped me through one of the most difficult periods in my life marked by deep depression and stress and guided me to a point where my mood and self-confidence are constantly improving day by day. I feel that I have been helped not only to process the symptoms, but also that the cause has been treated” (Michael, 32)
“Jakob is an extremely committed therapist. He is solution-oriented and good at illuminating blind spots. He basically helped me understand who I really am” (Victoria, 28)
